It’s time to celebrate the Island’s unsung heroes…

IT’S time to start nominating your community heroes…

The JEP’s Pride of Jersey Awards is back for an eighth year to honour individuals, charities and other organisations who go the extra mile.

From that special teacher or thoughtful neighbour, to doting grandparents and children who have achieved so much through adversity, the annual awards recognise those often unsung heroes who help make this Island so special.

Nominations have now opened for the 14 categories online and in the paper.

For the second year in a row there will also be the special Gary Burgess Award which will be presented to a community champion chosen by members of the media and the late presenter and journalist’s loved ones.

All those nominated in the 14 categories will be put forward to a public vote, with the overall winners being selected by a panel of judges. The finalists will be invited to the awards ceremony later this year.

The winner will receive a prize worth £1,000 from the category sponsor.

The JEP and event partner Jersey Post are hoping for another successful year – 2022 saw a record-breaking 212 nominations and 45,243 votes cast.

JEP editor Andy Sibcy said: ‘The Pride of Jersey Awards have always been a highlight of my year as editor. With so much doom and gloom around nowadays, it os refreshing to be able to celebrate so many extraordinary people who do so much good for their community and their island.

‘The stories we hear each year of people going above and beyond for others are truly humbling, inspiring and heart-warming.

‘Please help us celebrate the very best of Jersey again this year by nominating people who have really made a difference. There are so many people worthy of a massive Pride of Jersey thank-you.’

Jersey Post’s chief executive Mark Siviter added: ‘The Pride of Jersey Awards is such an inspirational event that really shines a light on those within our community who are making a real difference year after year. As a brand, we pride ourselves on keeping Islanders connected, and our support for this event demonstrates this community ethos. We are proud to be headline sponsors once again.’
